For PLC engineers, it is important to understand about PLC hardware & architecture first. When it comes to discussing about PLC architecture, it can be divided into two options known as modular controllers and compact controllers. The next thing we should learn is to understand about some elements of PLC hardware. A PLC is a control device that can be used to control some devices such as alarms, relays, lights and also motor starters. PLC engineers should know on how to optimize the use of a PLC in the automation industry. This can be done by learning more about PLC hardware & architecture first.
PLC Hardware & Architecture Elements
There are some major components we should know when it comes to PLC hardware & architecture. For its hardware, there are some major elements of PLC hardware such as:
•CPU (Central processing unit): In a PLC, CPU is also known as the brain which controls the whole process.
•Basic input/output modules
oDigital input, digital output
oAnalog input, analog output
•Power supply
•Memory
•Expansion baseplates, baseplate with slots, remote baseplates, and also remote input/output station
•Other modules such as communication modules, high-speed counter, Axis positioning module, module for code bar readers, and input modules for temperature sensors
Each component will have specific functions when it comes to doing some processes. As the technology has evolved, the same thing goes with PLCs. In modern PLCs, there are three types of task known as event controlled, cyclic, and periodic. PLC engineers should understand on how to optimize the use of a PLC based on its functions. In the automation industry, there is no doubt that a PLC plays an important role. By knowing how a PLC works and other aspects such as PLC hardware & architecture, we will be able to use a PLC and optimize its uses.
PLC Hardware & Architecture in Automation Industry
By knowing more about PLC hardware & architecture, it will give us a better understanding about a PLC. As we may already know, there are some major components we should know such as CPU, memory, input modules, output modules, and power supply. The fact is a PLC offers greater flexibility when it comes to running multiple tasks. A PLC offers efficiency and effectiveness especially in the automation industry. For those who work in the automation industry, it is important to know more about PLC hardware & architecture.
